Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1913 by twenty-two enlightened, dynamic college women who represented the epitome of sisterhood, scholarship, and service. Today, the sorority boasts a membership of more than 250,000 women, making it one of the largest African-American women's organizations in the world. The nonprofit group's mission is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. In addition to their tireless work, the women of Delta Sigma Theta have a penchant for entertaining-and always do it with their distinguished Delta style. Edna Lee Long-Green joined Delta at Alpha Nu Chapter at the University of Illinois.
